I met with my chosen surgeon with the idea of the bypass. We talked thru both and he assured me I could lose to goal with sleeve and less aftereffects. And, if for whatever reason I didn't have success with the sleeve, I could then do bypass. I love my sleeve. Hardly any pain, no nausea, aND haven't found a food my sleeve doesn't agree with.

I decided to go with the Bypass. I don't have a good reason for going with the Bypass over the sleeve....except that I know a few people who got sleeved and weren't successful. It has to do with following the program that your surgeon has laid out for you. And...I don't want to have to go through another surgery again.

I am fortunate enough to have access to paid medical research journals. The data for long-term outcomes (5+ years) of both the sleeve gastrectomy and the bypass are about the same. People lost more weight faster with the bypass, but in the end they were nearly identical.

The VSG freaked me out because I'd lose my stomach forever.

The bypass, to me, was a more extreme procedure and also seemed to require a more intensive, life-long monitoring because of the risks of malnutrition.

Everyone i know with the sleeve has regained some if not all the weight they lost

This bummed me out for about 3 seconds. But, as with any tool, if one doesn't use it correctly, it will not work. It's not a magic solution.

A woman that was in the doctors office with me had already had her surgery date and she wanted the bypass and my surgeon said that he wouldn't recommend it for so many reasons. She told him that she really wanted it and that if he didn't do it then she would find another surgeon. He told her to do her homework and bring him some info of all the reasons why she felt that it was the right one for her and he would do it. She did just that and he did the surgery and I saw her again for my post op visit and she said that it was the worst thing she could have ever done. I just think it's a more invasive surgery which has more risk of complications.

I was not interested in Malabsorption. I wanted to be able to take meds and supplements and not worrying about the dosing for the rest of my life.

I also wanted to be as normal as possible, which was easily achieved with the sleeve

I don't know anyone who as even had the bypass and got to a normal weight. They are all still obese. Gold standard my ^%$.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
