Tufflaw 465 Posted January 3, 2017 Wondering if anyone here trains Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or a similar type of grappling or MMA. I trained for several years before gaining too much weight and now that my surgery is over I'd like to get back into it. It's very high-impact in terms of physical contact, a lot of core movements, and lots of pressure on body parts, especially the abdomen. There's even a position called "knee on stomach" with pressure applied directly to the abdomen, so of course I'm worried about my incisions and the stomach itself. For those who do this type of training, I was wondering how long it took after surgery to get back into training and what your experience was like. Thanks! Dub 9,922 Posted January 3, 2017 Man....talk about getting back into the fight....heck yes. That's gonna get you into seriously good shape. I don't have a clue how long to wait, but I'd be very careful and make sure I was fully healed. I'd run this by your surgeon for sure.
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted January 3, 2017 @@Dub and I know this really hot girl who got her black belt pre-op and her second degree/certified instructor belt post op. I do a combo of TKD, Ju-Jitsu and Hapkido. I do more sparring than grappling because it's against my training to let them get me down on the ground, but the Hapkido element has taught me what to do if that happens. I wasn't allowed to train at all until I was 6 weeks out. I wasn't allowed to contact spar until 3 months out and I was't allowed to contact spar with lower belts (those people are dangerous!!) for six.
