My surgery date is the 10th and my preop testing is on the 6th... I woke up with a stuffy nose and watery eyes. Not sick just congested. Does anyone know what they scan for so i can take something for this. Ive came so far and i dont want to be stopped for a stuffed nose!

Pre op testing is usually to get a basline on your blood count and blood chemistry. I do not know of any surgeons who do drug testing other than maybe for nicotine. I believe you are safe taking something for congestion, but call your surgeon's office if you are concerned....best of luck with your surgery.

If your still stuffy on your surgery day, tell the anesthesiologist and ask for something to dry you out. I have allergies and always ask for this. A dopamine patch for nausea is also something he/she can do. I got one before my WLS, I think it lasted 48 hours.

Ok....I had a cold and a cough on the day of my first surgery date AND my second date. I was told to NOT do surgery unless I was 100%. I was taking Claratin to dry my nose up and my RN said it was not safe. I don't know any science behind it, just what I was told. She said there was a chance of aspiration while I was under anaesthesia.....once again just saying what I was told. Ask your doctor if you are Ok for surgery first. I hope everything works out for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
