Montana Gal 448 Posted January 3, 2017 Pre op testing is usually to get a basline on your blood count and blood chemistry. I do not know of any surgeons who do drug testing other than maybe for nicotine. I believe you are safe taking something for congestion, but call your surgeon's office if you are concerned....best of luck with your surgery.

Aggiemae 739 Posted January 5, 2017 If your still stuffy on your surgery day, tell the anesthesiologist and ask for something to dry you out. I have allergies and always ask for this. A dopamine patch for nausea is also something he/she can do. I got one before my WLS, I think it lasted 48 hours.

Christina.Rose 287 Posted January 5, 2017 Ok....I had a cold and a cough on the day of my first surgery date AND my second date. I was told to NOT do surgery unless I was 100%. I was taking Claratin to dry my nose up and my RN said it was not safe. I don't know any science behind it, just what I was told. She said there was a chance of aspiration while I was under anaesthesia.....once again just saying what I was told. Ask your doctor if you are Ok for surgery first. I hope everything works out for you. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App
