I am due to have revision on January 23rd due to GERD. For those of you that have had both what was your recovery vs. the sleeve, and did you have additional weight loss.

I was sleeved 5/23/16, and converted to bypass 10/26/16. Some things were easier, like being able to get fluids and Protein in better and the relief I got from the reflux being gone was really nice. But, my soreness was worse. I did not expect the pain to be worse but it was for me. I was so sore on my left side! It took me longer to recover, but I think it was well worth it. I have better restriction, but my loss is still pretty much at the rate it was with the sleeve. I was told that while I may not lose any faster, my total weight loss may be higher overall. I am currently stalled at 185, (HW 238) but Christmas was pretty difficult for me. I was not sleeping well, so my appetite was through the roof. I am sleeping better now and my appetite has decreased a bit, but still not seeing major movement on the scale. I haven't gotten much exercise lately, so I really just need to get moving again and I'll see better results. I hope all goes well for you. Keep us posted!

I had the sleeve in 2011.Due to acid reflux I had bypass on Nov,22,2016.The surgery took longer because they had to go through scar tissue from other surgery.they also fixed a failed Hiatal Hernia.I was more sore this time.Walking helped a lot with the gas pains. The rest of my body was sore toofrom being on the table longer.I went home after 2 days .Had to get my Fluid intake up before they would let me go home.Only took pain meds a couples after I was home.Just walked a lot around the house.I have lost 24 lbs so far.The acid reflux is gone .So worth it.

Good Luck with your surgery

Thank you both for the info. I can not wait for the reflux to be gone. I just feel so awful all the time, and the sad thing is anything healthy pretty much makes it worse so I am not eating well. On the otherside I am not eating much so I haven't gained at all. I have been the same exact weight since March. I am so hoping this will get me to goal!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
