panthermomkk 7 Posted January 3, 2017 Hey everyone, I am 14 days post op and yesterday and today I have just felt super tired and lethargic. I literally just want to sleep all day. I'm getting in all of my Protein, Vitamins and liquids. I also have no issues from healing thus far. Any idea why I feel so fatigued and down? Kaly
81Kellogram 101 Posted January 3, 2017 You had major surgery 2 weeks ago and you are subsisting on very few calories. Your body needs time to heal and get used to the new normal. As long as you are getting all your requirements, plus walking every day, I say give in to it and get some rest. Good luck!
areadyloser 31 Posted January 3, 2017 This is how I feel when my Iron is low. I am anemic and know the feeling all to well. Maybe get a drawn to check for deficiencies. Make sure you are getting your Protein and Water. Hoping you feel better. Like previously stated you did have major surgery could be a part of recovery. JamieLogical 8,713 Posted January 3, 2017 I struggled with fatigue up until I was on soft foods and could get more calories in. Even though I was meeting my Protein goals, my calories were only up around 400-450 while I was in the liquid and puree stages. Once I got up over 600 I noticed a big difference in my energy levels. Once I got up around 850 I was able to do intense cardio again.
lurker lora 89 Posted January 3, 2017 I am pretty sure it is normal. I was also very tired for about the first five weeks. Also I think it has to do with the time of year. My friends are saying they are dragging as well.
CarenL 35 Posted January 3, 2017 (edited) I was sleeved on 10/20/16 and was. Rey fatigued for 4-6 weeks. I did go out and walk every day though. What you are feeling is normal as your body is healing and adjusting to the "new normal." It DOES get better! I no longer have that fatigue. Hang in there! How often are you eating and how much? It's pretty typical to feel run down in the first few weeks post-op, since you are expending a lot of energy to heal yourself, but not taking in many calories. dmb16 5 Posted January 9, 2017 Protein is hard going tbh but Water and Vitamins no problem, typical day.. 1/2 weetabix with skimmed milk, yogurt snack, Soup with chicken or Tomato, babybell light snack, turkey with Philadelphia light, ritz cracker snack and lots of Water through day Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
JamieLogical 8,713 Posted January 9, 2017 Pretty shocked you are having weetabix and ritz crackers at 23 days post-op. My advice would be to not waste room on carbs and focus on your Protein. If you are cleared for soft or solid foods, you should probably transition away from Soup as well. It's not much Protein. Great for getting at least SOME nutrition in the liquid phase, but not much use beyond that point. In any case, definitely work on the protein. Meeting your protein goals will help your energy levels for sure.
dmb16 5 Posted January 9, 2017 The weetabix is basically liquid and the 2 crackers are put into my Soup, both were suggestions from my post op dietician appt. Think like you said definitely go back to more Protein shakes as main meals, any more food you can suggest I could have would be really appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App When I was on soft foods I relied pretty heavily on my Protein Shakes, but my typical day would look something like this: Breakfast: Protein shake Morning snack: string cheese Lunch: Protein Shake or leftovers Afternoon snack: Greek yogurt or cottage cheese Dinner: an actual recipe, like Shelly's Baked Ricotta Late snack: Protein shake Dinners and lunches were my times to be creative. I would look for bariatric recipes online. This site has tons of great ones: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/
dmb16 5 Posted January 13, 2017 Used a 40g Protein cottage cheese tub, 6 eggs, 12 small chunks of Protein smoked cheese. Mixed them all up in a bowl, seperated mix into a 12 portion oven tray baked until golden.. each little 'muffin' equates to 10.5g protein..great Breakfast, one is enough for me at the moment..yum Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
