Questions about Hair Loss and Scars

Recommended Posts

Ok...so I'm only 4 months out, but I'm doing FABULOUS! I've been super lucky with no complications and an easy recovery. My questions relate to 1) hair Loss....how long did you go thru it cuz mine is really falling out quite a bit! and 2) how about your scars? mine are still VERY red. How long until the redness goes away? I've been putting Neosporin on them, hope that helps but we will see! Thanks for your input. :-)

I'm only 3 months out and am experiencing mega hair loss myself! I take 10,000mcg of Biotin everyday but it doesn't seem to be helping. My scars are still a bit red but I've been putting Vitamin E on them since they healed over and it seems to be working. Hopefully, someone will give us some good advice for hair loss!!!

I don't really remember when the scars healed but my torso was a road map of scars from previous surgeries so I wasn't paying attention.

My hair fell out like crazy while I was losing. Now that my weight loss has stopped for several months, my hair has stated to grow back. It is MUCH thinner that what I am used to and my super curly hair is now straight as a board.

Even with the thin hair, I would have the surgery again in a heartbeat.

Never had much hair loss......took some hair related supplements daily from GNC the first 8 months.

Seemed to work.

Scars have faded and are small enough to either not be noticeable or could be the subject of some really cool stories if I wanted to make some up.

All is well.

Like others said, you can always try Vitamin E. Just buy the capsules and puncture them and rub it right on to your scars. Mine faded fairly quickly to a light pink but my stomach is already such a mess of stretch marks I feel like the scars are the least of my concerns, lol.

I'm one month post op so not sure about Hair loss due to I don't currently have any . But I have been using bio oil and if you look up my post about my belly, you will see my scars are fading really well. Bio oil is costly but it works.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
