January Surgeries

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. Here's a bit of my background

Lapband done April 2011

Only lost 40 lbs

Went in for revision to sleep Nov 5, 2016

And they were only able to take my band out

Since it had slipped I needed time to recover.

Friday is my surgery, and I decided to go bypass instead of sleeve. I'm very nervous, about dumping and feeling like I'm starving. Plus I'm a very thirsty person and I can chug a bottle of Water lol, so the sipping is going to be a huge adjustment.

Anyone else having surgery in January, what day? And what surgery you getting? I'd love to have some fellow BariatricPal friends to embark on this new journey with!

I am having the bypass on Jan.10th. I am on the second day of three to four Protein drinks and Water in between for six days. On the seventh day it is low sodium chicken broth, Water and crystal light type drinks. The thing is I have had a Migraine with nausea since yesterday afternoon. Did anyone else have this problem with the liquid diet? So bad, I couldn't go to work.

Thank you! I am finally home and doing better. I had pretty bad nausea and pain for the first few days, but it's getting a bit easier every day. I just had some porridge, my first actual food since the surgery! Things are looking up.

@@wiresandwood, I'm glad you are feeling better. My surgeon mentioned it will get better gradually. Even though you get to eat porridge, are you feeling hungry?

Right now I feel basically zero hunger, and I'm just trying to force myself to get in some nutrition! I find it really hard to get in enough liquids and food. I'm sure it'll get a bit easier down the road, but right now it's still a bit uncomfortable.

Having bypass and I'll find out the date on the 16th. That's when we'll meet with the dr and schedule surgery

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
