abbielynn1993 13 Posted January 2, 2017 I'm from Iowa. I have healthcare through the school (I teach) and it's a small mom/pop kind of health insurance. My surgery center says they've only have 2 other people with this insurance come through and they were both approved within 1 day. My insurance only requires 3 things, 100 pounds overweight, 2 doctor letters and pre-authorization. I'm a little nervous about being approved though. I'm much overweight (my BMI is 57), but I do not have sleep apnea, diabetes, or high blood pressure (surprisingly). I do have back pain, and some joint pain when exercising/moving. Can insurance deny me, just because I'm overweight, and have no other heath problems?
Eaumond 9 Posted January 2, 2017 With that high of a bmi it is unlikely they would deny you, my bmi was 64ish, I do not have any issues (blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc) if your worried you can talk with your center, they are generally honest with you if they think your case is a good candidate. I was a little worried too. I'm 3 days post op now. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
BigDog Bryan 262 Posted January 2, 2017 Your BMI and a cooperative Primary Care Physician who can write a proper Recommendation (and maybe your GYN as well) should be enough. This is NOT a vanity-based decision, so they should be able to get you approved Before symptoms and other conditions arise.
