Is more than 50-60 grams of protein ok?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My Dr said to try to get in 50-60 grams of Protein a day.

Does that mean only w/in that range? Does it hurt if I have more?

My Protein shake has 30 grams of Protein and then after lunch. I've hit my limit. This means I wouldn't be able to eat for the rest of the day.

TIA for your response!!

Here's my experience with Protein. My doctor said to get 60 grams a day (it's based on your current weight/height). I wasn't getting enough so my hair started falling out. Well...I went back to him and he emphasized the 60 grams a day. Well...I figured...I'm going to get that and then some. I started getting more than 60 grams a day and my stomach was cramped very badly with gas pain. I was told that if you overdo it with protein, it causes gas and I'm a believer because let me tell you...with just 60 grams a day I'm ready to explode from behind...

I eat anywhere from 60-120grams of Protein a day. No problems. Think about the Atkins or South Beach or Zone or Sugar Busters dieters, they are eating waaaaay more than that usually. The only time too much protein is a problem is if your diet is ONLY protein with NO or VERY little fat and NO carbs, you can have issues with your kidneys. And unless you are a survivalist living off of nothing but rabbits for a period of time, you really don't have to worry about that.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
