Hunger after surgery/ Medication

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I'm getting banded bright and early Tuesday morning and I can't wait. One thing I have been wondering is how many of you experienced extreme hunger during the first weeks before getting a fill since there's is no saline in the band at first? Also, I take two medications (wellbutrin and adderall) on a daily basis. Will i be allowed to swallow them or am i going to need to crush them up or something since i can't have "solids" for 3 weeks? Thanks anyone who responds!

Welcome to the other side! I know today you are in band hell, you're wondering to yourself "WTF did I do to myself" and "will this pain ever go away"? It's a pain that I will never forget and hope to never have to repeat. But to answer your questions:

I wasn't hungry - the first week I could barely stand the sight of food. You'll be fine on liquids for a few weeks, it's really all you will want.

I don't know how large those tablets are but right after surgery you're going to be swollen so you more than likely will have to crush them to get them down. You don't want them to get stuck...trust me.

You'll be fine, you'll have to make a few adjustments but in time you will get to know your band and have a better understanding of what can and can't go down. I wouldn't try to swallow anything larger than a baby aspirin for at least 6 weeks.

Good luck, you'll be fine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
