Now that we are in the new year, I am officially counting down the days until my surgery! I have all of my pre-op tests done, and the only thing left for me to do is have my final pre-op appointment with my surgeon on January 5.

When I spoke with my surgeon's nurse last week, she said I will be on a liquid diet for one week pre-op, and Clear Liquids one day before the actual surgery. She also said that I will have my surgery on Tuesday, January 17, and I will be required to stay in the hospital for 2 nights, so I will be released to come home on Thursday. As much as I would love to come home quickly, I am kind of happy that I will be staying for a few days in order to make sure everything is ok before I head home. Especially after reading about all of the different complications that people have run into after their procedures. Hopefully mine will go smoothly, but if not, I will at least be in the hospital for a couple of days to get pain relief and other support as needed.

January 17 cannot come fast enough! I just want to be through this and on the other side. Researching the entire process is consuming my every thoughts right now! This group has been so helpful with informing me of what to expect, good and bad, and how to prepare for post-op.

My surgery is on 1/17 too. I think I'm going to start my liquid diet tomorrow instead of Tuesday. Hoping I can survive it with no slip ups

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
