Getting support while being single

Recommended Posts

Looks like this is an older kind of extinct group but hoping some others will help me resurrect it. Hard being single & doing this alone. Don't have any friends or family who have gone thru or can relate. My surgery is 2/7/2017. Can't get here fast enough. Anyone else out there?!

I am single after my surgery but pretty much did it alone before that. Wish you the best in upcoming surgery. Just take it one day at a time & focus on goals for that day. If there is any questions I can help you with going through it, let me know. It is harder not having support with you at home especially. I had my surgery on 09/19/16. Available if ever need to talk. You got this. :) I still feel it was the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Me. Although I imagine it could be a bit easier for us long term. No one demanding their own meals we can't eat, no one keeping their junk food in our kitchens, no having to smell someone else's food. While the first few days of dropping off/picking up/care might be tricky, the rest sounds better to me!

I had to come home to a cleaned out home and had to move back to NC from Florida. It has its bonuses. It's like starting totally over. And generally I'm doing good. Working hard, and feeling better than I have in years. I'm paying my bills and spending time with my daughter. I had a great Christmas with her. But I spent New Years alone. I had friends invite me over, but I don't want to be the 3rd wheel. Not to mention I like having someone to spend time with. So there are good and bad points to being single. Oh...I started in late June, my first weigh in was 406.7. My RNY was on Sept. 6th, 2016. I was 376 that day. I have lost 143.3 lbs. At 263.4 lbs as of today.

I was single. I however had the support of a few friends that I told who helped me along the way staying at the hospital & coming by & buying things. Without them i think I would of been miserable

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
