Did anyone smoke before beginning the process prior to surgery? Did your doctor test you prior to surgery to make sure your system was clear? If so, when exactly did they test you and how does it work? I'm trying to quit, but I've had a few slip ups. I don't want to ruin this process! T.I.A.

I had to quit 4 weeks prior to surgery. They did a nicotine test before they even scheduled me. It was just a urine sample but my surgeon is really strict about not smoking even now and I have been post op almost a month. Unfortunately I started back up but only smoke once in a while. Your best bet is to ask them about their requirements, some require 4 weeks, some 8 weeks, and I have read some require longer than that.

My surgeon required 3 months no nicotine prior to surgery. I smoke a 0 nicotine e cig..don't miss the nicotine at all. I did a slow progression down to nothing. The reason they don't want you smoking is because it can cause life threatening ulcers in the stomach after surgery. If you're truly serious about the surgery..put them away.

My doctor didn't test me, but it's for your own good - complications with healing, i.e. blood clog, etc.

Trust me, after your surgery, you won't even want one - your entire taste bud changes

mine was 3 months before surgery and they did a urine test. I quit 9/1/16. Thankfully because I drank so much Water and fluids I was able to clean my system. I was unaware how quick they were going to test me. I was sleeved 10/21/16. I have had 2 smokes since and they were gross to be honest. My Dr put me on wellbutrin to help me quit

My doctor said he wanted me smoke free for 6 weeks prior to surgery, admittedly I did not follow orders. I quit 21 days before my nicotine test which was done at my pre-op testing 1 week prior to surgery. I wish I had quit sooner as I was told to but I had a horrible time quitting, vaping did not work for me and chantix gave me weird nightmares. In the end my desire to have surgery win out and I quit cold turkey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
