Hey. So I had my surgery on the 27th. I had no idea what to expect pain wise. But let me be honest. It was the worst pain I ever felt in my life times 10. And I've had kids so I have a perspective on pain. I woke up loopy and thinking "hell yes. I got this!' but as the meds wore off, so did that feeling. It went from a pain scale of 1 to 10 within a couple hours. They started with their basic meds, then upgraded me, then went to an iv med. But they wouldn't keep me on that even though the iv worked. They wanted me on something I could take at home which does make sense. I was crying and couldn't breathe from the pain. I had chest pains and couldn't breathe so they gave me an ekg. I was fine. Eventually we got a hold of the pain but it took hours of begging for a different type or a bigger dose of meds. The nurses were so hesitant. The doctors seemed more likely to increase it. I am sorry if this is scaring you but I wish someone had told me what to expect. I ended up staying an extra day to get a hold of the pain. I am doing good now as long as I stay in front of the pain. Set your alarm and wak up to take it in the middle of the night so you don't wake up in the morning in agony. I am up and walking now and picking up and doing laundry....probably doing too much just cause I feel good. Bottom line is, it will get better but it was a terrible first two days. I am glad to be home. Advocate for yourself and don't be embarrassed to express your pain. It's the only way you'll get help. Don't be a hero. No reason.

Good luck and it will get better.

Wow,

Sorry you went through this. I just shows that everyone's experience is different. Some people will have a lot of pain, others not. I was lucky. I've had 5 surgeries (knee acl reconstruction, lap band, c section, breast reduction, rny) -and have to say my rny was the best recovery. Didn't need meds after day 1. But pain was terrible right out of surgery until I got the meds.

I glad you are starting to feel better!

I was in the same boat upon wake up but my pain quickly subsided. I was so dry and gas-y I started to panic. Full out anxiety attack. Big dose of Deloidem(?) and I've been fine since. I did crush and take some lexapro to keep it cool

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
