I had my RNY on December 13, 2016. I have followed every instruction from my dietician and surgeon without any cheating. I have weighed all my food, meeting my Protein goals, meeting my Water goals, and keeping a food diary. My weight has been steadily decreasing about 1 to 2 pounds a day. Today I wake up and weigh myself and there was no change in my weight. I weighed the same as yesterday. I'm ok with that. However later in the morning I weighed again and I had gained 3 pounds! How is it possible to gain 3 pounds in a matter of hours? I understand there may be plateaus, but gaining in a matter of hours is really upsetting. Has anyone else had this experience?

My advice would be to only weigh yourself once a week. I drive myself crazy weighing myself too much and it's something I still struggle with. I know that I gain weight as the day goes on so I can understand the weight gain. It's definitely hard but try for once a week :). You are still early out from surgery and I did experience some weight gain in the couple weeks after my surgery. Continue to eat right and eventually exercise and you should be fine :).

I agree....try not to over weigh yourself or you'll go nutty over it. Your setting in for your 3 week stall (definately a thing) so try not to panic. The losing will resume.

My important rule of thumb? I never weigh myself more than one time in a day (unless I weigh first thing in the morning, then shortly after have a large BM - sorry, crude I know, but I'm stepping back on that scale if I'm certain there are ounces that I've lost in that toilet!). If I step back on the scale sooner than 1 week is up, and I see the number stuck, or <gulp> has gone up, I just don't let it register. I wait until I'm sure the weight has started dropping again.

I weigh once a day in he morning when I get up...naked. It is the best and most consistent time to weigh yourself. You will gain food and Water weight throughout the day. So it is pointless to weigh yourself at different times throughout the day.

Also please don't set yourself up to expect a 1-2lb drop per day. That will stop and you'll go into a set of stairs style weight loss mode. I had a 1'week stall (I don't consider a plateau less than 7 days a stall) at 3 weeks and another two week one at 9 weeks.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
