Why am I so hungry?

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve on 12/21. 5 days out I could drink 10-12 oz in an hour. liquids are no problem. I just feel ravenous all the time. I'm getting in 100 grams of Protein a day and getting 64 oz of Water. Will the feeling hungry subside when I get to the puréed food phase? I have almost another week of full liquids to go.

I went through the same thing. People told me it was all in my head, but I know I was actually hungry! broth, yogurt, Jello and popsicles helped me through. The puree phase has definately helped! There's a lot of yummy options ????

I had my sleeve done 12/22 and I'm struggling to the point of feeling down. My protocol now has me on soft foods. I'm still struggling with Water and having crazy sugar attacks. I have PCOS and not sure if this is what's contributing to my craves or it's " all in my head". I started tracking my intake. I'm getting an 11oz- 30g Protein shake down daily, but still hungry. Thoughts?

Hey there, @@carolynh, I had my surgery on the same day as you.

I agree on the hunger part. So FRUSTRATING. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble getting in all of my fluids and Protein. I'd rather do what I can and not push anything

Like you, I'm hopeful that the pureed stage will end this hungriness.

describe what you mean by hungry...

I'm asking because I was sleeved 12/21 and while I have felt many many interesting things I wouldn't describe any as hungry.

My stomach makes crazy noises but that's acid and digestion.

I get bored laying around so i start thinking about bacon, lol. But my stomach is full so its not hunger

I think about how my last solid meal was 12/19 and how good it was ( I went out with a bang, lol) but that memory is not hunger.

So what are you experiencing that you describe as hunger?

Not OP, but for me, hunger is exactly the same as before the surgery. Like, "I haven't eaten all day and my stomach is screaming for food" hunger.

I feel gas/gurgling & hear noises as well, but they're separate sensations from the hunger.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
