sugarbear234 17 Posted December 30, 2016 Today I went to meet the surgeon I was cleared from all but him. I was ready to discuss the gastric sleeve but to my surprise he firmly recommended the bypass heart broken due to my bout with Gerds. So now I think it's just best for me to get to the gym. I am from UK so maybe I'm missing something Sent from my SM-J320FN using the BariatricPal App It will make gerds worse. So the RNY is better for people that have gerds. That's what I got out of it. I don't want the RNY I am 236 lbs now I have absolutely no desire to loss 100 pounds or more. I had my mind made up on 50 to 60 lbs. I would look soooo sick at 136. It just wasn't in my plan. ToniHa Thanks I just don't want to suffer with more intense heartburn and acid reflux. I don't want to be sick all day because I made a choice to have surgery. clc9 644 Posted December 30, 2016 So he's recommending the bypass, not turning you away. Did you ask him about whether you could lose 50-60 pounds and stop there with bypass? I'm not certain why you think you would lose 100 pounds with one surgery and not the other. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
missmarthak31 9 Posted December 30, 2016 Have you thought of getting a gastric balloon? Im having one put in on January 12. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Aggiemae 739 Posted December 30, 2016 My surgeons office has ended up removing almost half of the balloons they put in within 2 months. People don't seem to be tolerating them. I asked, jokingly, if people got their money back and she answered, seriously, that they did not. As for the OP, you have the final word about which surgery to have my surgeon pitch the bypass as fastest, with higher "average" weight loss. I decided on the less drastic sleeve and also to NOT be average. As for "hitting the gym" as a person who has lost the same 100 pounds seven times I hope you reconsider surgery. I'm sorry I didn't do it years ago.
SharBear617 146 Posted December 31, 2016 From what I've read, after about 2 years post op, there isn't much difference in excess weight lost between rny vs sleevers. My bmi before surgery was 42, but I went with rny because I also had gerd, and now 6 months post op, no reflux. But, I was looking to lose (and needing to quite frankly) at least 80 to 100 lbs total, however, I was told I could probably only expect the tool that surgery gives me to be responsible for somewhere around 65 to 75 lbs of weight loss....if I wanted more, that would be all my doing. Take your time, and decide what's best for you. Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App
