Gastric Bypass x 1 week-Just Journaling for therapy purposes

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Today is exactly 1 week post op. High: 315, Starting 269.0, Surgery: 259.5, Home from hospital: 267.9, Currently: 258.6.

1 week makes such a huge difference. In this one week, I had surgery, passed my swallow study, ate mash potatoes at the hospital, discharged home, became very dehydrated and had an ambulance have to come get me off the side of the road because I was too stubborn to ask for help and almost wrecked because I was near faint, had 2500ml of Fluid put back in, unable to tolerate foods/proteins, and have now seen the doctor that wants me to do a pedialyte challenge and if I feel better I won't need to go back to the ED. I am exhausted, frustrated, nauseous, I wish I could stop and rest for a few minutes but even resting feels like work. Today I have maintained 8 oz of Water and 4 oz of pedialyte and 2 oz of chicken broth. I am going to get better even if this kills me first. I am going to succeed!!!!!! I am trying to maintain my humor and positive spirit, just a little defeated at the moment and needed to journal this out. Thank you everyone for just listening and I hope you all are doing much better than I.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having such a rough start. It will get better as you heal, keep sipping all day long. Stay hydrated. The hospital gave you mashed potatoes?! I had a week of Clear liquids only and then two weeks of full liquids. After that was pureed foods for a week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
