This is the first time I have posted pictures. I am 36 pounds down I don't know if I am being hard on my self but even though I have lost I still don't see any changes. I'm kind of down because I am not getting all the exercise in that I know I need but I am eating a lot better than before. I guess I am asking for some input for others that are going through the same things.

Don't be discouraged. I am 3 weeks out and have supposedly lost 20lbs. I don't look like it either. Keep in mind you see yourself everyday. It will take you longer to see the difference. You're still at the very beginning of your journey... The best is yet to come!

I had surgery 11/1 and I am down 35 pounds since surgery. I feel the same. I can't see the difference in there. The good news is we're losing. Hang in there!

Please don't be discouraged. I had these tight fitting suits when my journey started. I lost close to 40 lbs just before surgery.

I didn't really notice anything from pictures, neither did anyone else.. I checked by wearing the suits and the pants were too big. Had to start wearing shirts I'd outgrown.

Just keep losing.

I can see a difference! You seem to be shrinking pretty evenly all over which is harder to see at first.

Someone described it to me this way once: Think of yourself like a brand new roll of paper towels. When you start tearing sheets off, the size of the roll doesn't change much at all. But as you get down to the end of the roll, taking a sheet or two off makes a huge difference in how full the roll looks. Over time the changes are going to much more noticeable quickly.

I see that you've lost some in your mid-section. You look great. :)

I love that explanation so much! It's something physical that you can actually picture in your head!

Pics don't tell the story. I'm down a lot and wear clothes I have not worn in a very long time but I still see the overweight me in the pictures. Some improvement but don't see it. You've got to be experiencing looser clothing. Keep it up. You'll see it before you know it and when you're least expecting it.

I can tell in the way the shirt fits you differently in the two pictures. I agree that you are losing weight all over so may not be noticeable to you. Either way you are down 36lbs which is amazing. Keep up the good work.

I had a hard time telling at first, until I had to do this collage... I had surgery in August 2016, and was very discouraged because I didn't feel like I was losing enough or what I was supposed to be. But just keep going, it does happen and you do but we are extremely hard on ourselves, our own worst critics... Hope this helps. post-298402-14831249855551_thumb.jpg

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
