djsambo 10 Posted December 30, 2016 Hey guys, I had my vsg on 11/15/16 and am now cleared to start exercising. I am in the market for some new workout clothes. I was wondering what brands that you have noticed had sizes such as 4x or 5x? I notice Under Armour has some sizes up to 5x and Nike has some up to 4x. Any recommendations on brands, stores, particular garments would be great. Thanks in advance, Sam
James Marusek 5,244 Posted December 30, 2016 As I recall after surgery, my body was very tender. So I wore loose fitting clothes to avoid the pain and soreness. Clothes that had an elastic band or drawstring. I think I wore comfy hospital pants for the first couple months. I wasn't too sensitive to the way I looked during exercise, but most of my exercise was around my house and not in public like a gym. I had RNY surgery over three years ago and the weight fell off very quickly. It made almost no sense to buy new clothes until the weight loss settled down. I went from a size 3X in shirts down to a size Small and from a size 46 in pants down to a size 32 in about 7 months time. Sleeve patients will generally lose weight at a slower pace. Aggiemae 739 Posted December 30, 2016 My work out cloths right now are what ever still fits bit is to ratty for daily wear. You're going to blow through sized quickly, consider buying gear at goodwill. My local store has plenty of xxx sizes, probably donated y people who had WLS. Redmaxx 740 Posted January 4, 2017 Yeah my recommendation is to go to the Sally Shops (Salvation Army Thrift Store, Goodwill, DAV, etc.). You are going to lose weigh pretty rapidly and it doesn't make sense to buy brand new clothes once or twice a month. Right now I buy all my clothes (minus socks and underwear) at the thrift stores. Just remember to wash them before you wear them.
TexasguyEP 56 Posted January 7, 2017 I agree with everyone here, your best bet will be to buy clothes from Goodwill, Salvation Army or any place similar where you'll be able to find cheap, but good clothing. At least I don't see myself spending money on clothes every few months and having to give everything else almost brand-new away. BTW, congratulations on your surgery! Best of luck!
