This cannot be sugar coated so here it goes. First forum post in my life but seriously need to talk about this. My short story first. Had the band, lost 110 pounds. Got down to 117 and felt amazing. Then it sucked. Irritated my stomach and the let out and fills and throwing up and weight gain got old. So transitioned to sleeve on 12/12/16. Started at 162, 155 day of surgery and down 143 and stalled. Ok no problem. Stomach feels great. BUT tonight had the most horrible experience going to the bathroom. I have no kids but I'm pretty sure this was similar to giving birth. Hard. Stuck. Extremely large. After an enema , and drinking a laxative and three long camp outs in the bathroom and very loud grunts and screams, I was relieved. My friend had the bypass and the same thing happened to her and I took her to the ER. I was never told it would be this bad by my staff???!!! This should be in bold letters on all paperwork! I've read some places on different things to do but would like advice on best intake regime to keep this from happening. I take a probiotic but should I take a daily Fiber or laxative and what is best? Anyone else go through this???

I was told Constipation could be an issue. My nurse told me to pick up an extra bottle of Mirlax when I picked up my pre- op prep stuff and keep the dulcaulax I didn't use. I took that to mean I would be needed it.

There's a green tea called dieter's tea at the 99 cent store go there and get it drink two of those at night and then it's like anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour and a half later you should be able to go to the bathroom and before you do that drink two stool softeners

It's only been 2 months since surgery and I can't even remember what it's like to NOT be constipated. The surgon says it's normal due to the combination of low volume, low bulk and high Protein.

I get at least 64 oz of Water every day. Chia seeds in my morning shake, Senna tea late afternoon Two stool softeners at bedtime AND still need a dose of Milk of Magnesia every few days.

I started to record poops when I realized I couldn't remember how long it had been since my last one...

A 1/2 cup of papaya has about 75 grams of carbs. Apples, about 8 grams of carbs per 1/2 cup would probably be better.

A serving of Benifiber has only 4 grams of carbs.

I experienced similiar about 3 weeks out. I'd say most of do.

All I can add is that this too will pass as you start introducing more food into your body.

I am 4 months out and had the same thing happen in the beginning. I can't tell you how many times I plugged the toilet up. IT DOES GET BETTER! It still happens occasionally but it got better in my 2nd month and has improved every month since. I took Colace to help it along. Today I will have some Fiber with Breakfast (carbs or not) which helps. Then just watch what I eat the remaining meals.

My doctor told me that I can take Miralax up to two times a day and add a stool softener. I always take the miralax twice and if it's been a few days since I've been able to go then I add a stool softener. Works so much better then right after surgery when I didn't go for over a week, it was terrible.

My surgery will be on Feb 3, 2017. BUt having had problems in the past, I keep atea called Smooth Move in the pantry. I've used it for years. It's a bit like licorice and very relaxing. I will usually go within a few hours. It's a natural Senna, so no weird side effects. I get mine at the grocery store.

It's a bit like licorice...

When I was a kid, I used to like licorice. But then, it worked so hard on my bowels that I got to the point where even the smell made me nauseous. My parents, being the jokesters they are, always made sure I had a bag of black jelly Beans at Easter, even as an adult. They knew I couldn't stand the stuff, so it was a natural. They never forced me to eat it of course, but it was just their perverse way of having some fun with me.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
