I'm also signed up for the webinar classes that start January 23rd for the Clackamas Sunnyside Kaiser NW region. I'm hoping the process doesn't take too long to get into surgery....I'm so ready to change my life!

Well hello neighbor!

I live walking distance from Kaiser Sunnyside...had my surgery at Good Sam, though.

I'm signed up for the January 23rd webinar class also. I'm in the Portland service area. I live about an hour north of PDX. I'm anxious to get the program going. My doctor said it takes between 9-12 months to get to surgery if I follow the program. Hopefully by this time next year I'll have had surgery. I'll see you at the webinar!

I'm signed up for the classes & start next week. The webinar option wasn't offered to me. Kind of a bummer though to see it could be 9-12mo from now before a surgery date [emoji53]

And which program were you accepted into, fordtmacrae? Is there something other than Mastering Weight Management we're supposed to be doing?

The class you mention is the one I start by webinar on January 23rd. That was listed as Step 1 on my three page letter from the program. Did you receive a letter from the WLS dept? It gives an outline of the steps we must go through and in which order leading to surgery. Maybe they're folks who've been through this Kaiser Region service area program and had surgery that can add more info to the process. I'm new to this NW Portland Service area and the program. I'm happy to chat with anybody more about it. Have a good day and good luck.

Are you finding the information worthwhile? Did they give you a diet with calorie limits and suggested weight loss for each person? I was wondering if this was an official weekly weigh in that was going to be part of the overall weight loss suggested/required for surgery? I'm doing it by webinar so I was told we would be required to keep a food and weight journal. Thanks for any info.

The information at first was what I found out on my own research so class was kinda ehhh but then you start learning things you didn't online and we do have weekly weigh ins they write it on a slip and you turn it in at end of class. They talked this week about calorie intake and now they want us to be losing the weight! It's 10% of you weight ex: if your 240 you lose 24 lbs they haven't told me to keep a food journal at least not yet.

I've taken Mastering Weight Management but they want me to wait to have my Dr referral until I have Medicare (June). Would someone tell me what classes and their length would be left for me to complete before surgery? My BMI is over 35, I am diabetic and have sleep apnea as well as other issues. I appreciate any information.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
