Hi All,

I started this process back in October. My fiancé and family have been super supportive! I have amazing insurance which covers surgery at 100% but requires a whole bunch of pre op testing including 4 weeks of consecutive nutritional meetings which I start on 1/26. I hoping for a March 2017 surgery date! I am so ready for this! What are some things you found challenging during your process? I'm feeling hopeful that things will go smoothly from here on out!

Welcome and congrats!

Honestly I didn't have any problems at all. Everything went very smoothly with very little effort on my part. My job was to follow my diet and lose before surgery. I know some had a more difficult time with insurance and all. I have United Healthcare and they took 7 days to approve me. They also paid 100% because I had already met my out of pocket expenses for the year, but if I would have waited until Jan 1st I would have paid $6000! Sooo thankful it worked out.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
