highfunctioningfatman 2,675 Posted December 30, 2016 I'm not losing my hair, I'm man-scaping! It's a solar powered sex machine! I will say that I was surprised to be losing hair... EVERYWHERE!!! Even in those special places. I am a little worried with people reporting that is has come back thicker. I have a "normal" amount of hair now and I don't want to look like a hedgehog later! trekker954 421 Posted December 30, 2016 Approaching 5 months. Started slow loss of hair at about 4 months, gets worse with every Shampoo. Also noticeable on my bathroom floor where I typically brush my hair. I have (had) very thick hair - so its not that noticeable to others yet. I've also noticed a lot of split ends too since surgery. ugh.
SusieSouth 51 Posted January 2, 2017 I'm trying to keep up with all my Multivitamins, while eating Iron and Protein rich foods like sorghum and liver. 6 weeks in and its been so far so good.
Daisy Day 91 Posted January 2, 2017 I take Sugar Bear hair Vitamins and I use Biotin Shampoo and conditioner. I'm hoping to not lose much hair, if it really starts falling out then I will "Pixie" it and dye it a nice shade of blond to hide the thinning. My hair was super curly until I went threw chemo a few years back, now it is fairly flat, I hope I get something in between. RNY_Honeybee 20 Posted January 2, 2017 If it happens it usually hits around 10 to 12 weeks post op and will continue through the massive weight loss phase. It might be a little soon to tell for some of you at this point. Also, you might be one of the lucky ones that does have any. I will say that I lost nearly 2/3 of my hair from month 2 to month 13. I did not have bald spots but my hair was thin. While I was losing it, new hairs were popping up all over. I can honestly say that my hair is as thick if not thicker than it was before surgery. In fact my stylist swears it is significantly thicker. Also the texture changed and I went from some body in my hair to very curly hair. To the point where it is difficult to straighten it...... So when your hair grew back it was curlier? I'm 5 weeks post op, I have long perfect curls....i Love my curls....i am deathly afraid of the Hair loss phase Sent from my SM-N930V using the BariatricPal App
Aggiemae 739 Posted January 2, 2017 I find that Hair loss happens at around 6 months every time I lose more than 50 pounds. Last time the "cure" was a pregnancy at age 48....

OzRoo 1,492 Posted January 2, 2017 No hair loss for me. None whatsoever, and I have a thyroid condition as well. My hair, at close to 10 months post op is healthier, thicker and grows fast. It is better now than pre-op. Must be all the Protein and collagen supplements, healthy diet and Vitamins I religiously take each day. So, for me, my hair is healthy. Went for total deforestation in the "down-under" area with laser Brazilian hair removal

OKCPirate 5,323 Posted January 4, 2017 I noticed hair loss, and then found out that my 80g of Protein wasn't enough, so when I got up to 100-110 everything was fine.
SuperDave 1,115 Posted January 5, 2017 I don't know if it is different for men, but I didn't lose any hair. I was ready to go bald too!
recreatingcate 132 Posted January 6, 2017 I'm super nervous about this, because I have alopecia. I've have five bouts of active Hair loss in the last ten years, and last year was the most severe - I lost all my hair on my head, my eyelashes, and my eyebrows in a little less then two weeks. It was heartbreaking. My hair as grown back healthy, and is about shoulder length now. I actively use Biotin and I use Nioxin Shampoo and conditioner. From what I've heard, making sure to get in all your Protein and then some is the key to keeping your hair. Fingers crossed!
