Hello all,

*My be TMI for some*

I was sleeved 12/27/2016 in Houston, Texas. I am currently on Clear liquids only. I have had about 5 bowel movements since surgery and the last 3 have been liquid only and extremely black in color. Is this something I should be alarmed about? Has anyone else experienced this? Also, I have had terrible heartburn/acid reflux the past 2 days. Never really had it pre-op but it's extremely uncomfortable. Is this temporary or something that sticks around for a while?

Thanks in advance for any guidance or support you can provide. I do plan on consulting my surgeon when the office opens. Just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced the same thing before taking to him.

Sadly, I deal with this often & I'm post sleeve almost 3 years.

Try Smooth Move tea (found in most super markets).

Just boil the Water like you would for any tea & drink up.

Typically, it works over night.

No cramps or tummy aches.

Good luck! :)

You will have some blood in your stool this close to surgery due to having your stomach your stomach removed. The blood has nowhere else to go so it goes there. I was one of the lucky ones and never experienced it. But was forewarned about it

@@RichHTX your bowel movements could be extremely normal OR cause for concern so I'd definitely call your surgeon. But if it is normal- it's liquidy because that's all you're getting in and it's black because you just had surgery so there was a little bleeding in the upper part of your digestive system (your stomach) ;)

Dark red BM may be due to bleeding along the colon. If the problem persists, you are bleeding into your stomach. Get it checked

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
