I need advice. I can't find a Protein Shake I can keep down I tried nectar (all flavors) also Beneprotein. Now I'm trying Atkins lift and the after taste is horrible. I cant keep it down. I already talked to my Doctor and he told me to hold my nose and drink it. But doesnt help. So hopefully someone can help me what Protein shake i can drink. By the way I had my gastric bypass surgery on Dec 5th. TIA

Premier is pre-mixed. After surgery, it was the only thing I could stand. Do you tolerate milk OK? My paperwork suggested something called "double milk" which is powdered nonfat milk mixed into regular skim milk with a blender. Also, Fairlife milk has more Protein than regular milk which can help. Also, try mixing the powders with more water/milk than it calls for. Or, alternatively, mixing it with less to make a pudding consistency that you might find different enough to tolerate. Just play with it and try different things. I also had good luck with putting unflavored Protein powder in chicken broth/bouillon (just mix it with warm Water in a blender first, then mix that into the hot liquid to avoid clumping). I also did well freezing the fruit juice "clear" Protein drinks into ice pops and getting them down that way early on.

I like ice col Premier Vanilla. I add a few drops of rum extract to make it taste like "egg nog" or coconut extract to make it taste like a "pinacolada."

Do you live near a costco? They carry Premier Protein there. It's the only one i tried pre-op and am still on it post-op. I only bought the chocolate and that's the one i drink, but they gave me the vanilla while i was in the hospital and it was ok, but it's way too sweet for my liking. To me it felt like i was drinking coffee Mate. That was with ice too lol.

If you want to try a small case first, Walmart carries all 5 flavors. So far i've only tried the two mentioned above, but they also have strawberries n cream, bananas n cream, and caramel.

On the list my surgeon's office gave me they recommend, Premier Protein, Muscle Milk, EAS, and Isopure.

I hope you can find something you like. Best of luck to you!

Watching this thread for suggestions.

I bought a bunch of Premier Protein shakes before my surgery because I liked it.

Now it tastes like chemicals to me and I have a great deal of trouble drinking it.

Why don't you get some of the unflavored Protein Powder or talk to your doc about prescriptfit shake powder in chocolate.

I found the perfect shakes!

I use the Quest Protein powder packs. Come in your normal flavors and yummy ones like salted Carmel. THEN I stumbled across the sugar free syrups that Starbucks uses at World Market (Walmart type stores usually only carry vanilla, raspberry and Carmel) BUT I got s'mores, cinnamon vanilla, brown sugar bourbon, Belgian sugar cookie, Carmel, chocolate ALL sugar free. So I add a small amount to my shakes. I even do the premier chocolate or vanilla and put it in blender with some ice and these flavoring and it's one of the best things I look forward to waking up to.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
