hopingforamiracle 2 Posted December 28, 2016 I had a band about 5 years ago - worked really well for 4 years but it failed about 1 year ago & the weight has been creeping back on I have been referred to a new consultant & they have talked about a sleeve was wondering how successful is it & can it fail? Thank you Xx Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Hiraeth 515 Posted December 28, 2016 I've heard of the Lap Band having more complications and failure than it succeeding. I actually know of a few people who have had the band, and every single one of them have either gotten it removed, or gained back their weight. The sleeve is a lot more successful. Of course, any weight loss surgery can fail if you continue with bad eating habits. It's just less likely to regain bad eating habits with the sleeve or bypass. Treadmillwalker 486 Posted December 28, 2016 (edited) I know several people who have experienced success with the lapband and not had any problems. My sister has had her band for 10+ years and lost over 100 pounds and has maintained the loss. Work with your health care team and be honest with yourself about your ability to be compliant with any surgery. I now have the band and I'm losing 10 pounds a month. I'm happy with this and knew going in my loses will be slower, which I wanted. Slow and steady. hopingforamiracle 2 Posted December 28, 2016 Thanks was unsure what route Togo sleeve or bypass but heard great reports about sleeve & less traumatic on your body now & later in life x Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
hopingforamiracle 2 Posted December 28, 2016 Band is not an option anymore as it's failed & the consultant doesn't do them anymore so maybe that speaks volumes as he didn't say what went wrong just that 30% fail & mine was one of them x Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

The sleeve is less harsh on your body, since it's almost impossible to get Dumping Syndrome.
hopingforamiracle 2 Posted December 28, 2016 I keep thinking it would be the best option & less stressful in my body x Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Treadmillwalker 486 Posted December 29, 2016 80% of the stomach is removed with the sleeve. That is a big decision. Good luck. Banded 10/12/
