Down 50...bad news.

Recommended Posts

Had VSG 10/4/16. Started at 239, now I am at 189! Wooohooo! I am 5'5" tall.

I have been having pain in my heel for the past year. I have seen two doctors, both with the same outcome. Turns out I have insertional tendon inflammation in my Achilles due to a heel spur and Haglund's Deformity. I sincerely thought losing weight would help ... I also thought physical therapy would help... I thought resting it, icing it and all that would help... nope.

Went to doc today...for the third time... MRI scheduled for Jan 6,2017...to see what he needs to do during surgery. No walking for exercise, no running, jumping, skiing, basketball, or volleyball (he left out football :). Even though I only walk and do light weights to try and keep toned ... note try-none of that except for upper body!!! He did say I can swim, um yeah it is December! All this is to avoid a rupture, which it already has a divot in it from degeneration caused by the spur. So basically... I'm a rooster! Lol. Trying to find humor somewhere in this!

Of course the doc told me in July this is what was going to happen, I just hoped I was the exception not the rule. This surgery requires 6 weeks no weight on the foot. Ain't nobody got time for that!!!

Hubbs and I leave on our 20th anniversary cruise in mid February... I also drive a school bus. So, I think if I can manage (I've made it this long) I will wait until after school is out for summer and then get all my crew ready to wait on me for 6 weeks minimum. If not I'll be waiting til after that cruise for sure!!!

Sorry for the book, and if you read it all ...thank you! I just needed to vent. Add to it I don't think my husband understands that it's major surgery... but he tends to be that way. After 20 years, I'm used to it!

Just get one of these and go on the cruise!!

I worked in an ER where one of our techs ruptured an achilles tendon or somesuch, and she kept right on working using one of these things... I'd have never believed it until I saw it. But it meets the "non-weightbearing" restriction for the orthopedist, but still lets you do a lot of stuff!

Seriously, I've had a lot of ortho stuff (mostly knee) and it always sucks. Sorry that you're going to have to have surgery, but think how much better recovery and PT will be at a lighter weight!!

Oh that's amazing!!! Even if I wait til after, I'm going to have one of those!!! I may just do it over spring break and then go back to work.

Saving my sick days for the cruise!!! I know terrible!!!

I had to have an unplanned major shoulder reconstruction in September after my VSG in June...it was a terrible time to have my activity restricted, so I feel for you. I wasn't allowed to walk for exercise for 4 weeks, couldn't run until this last week. I still can't do ANY upper body work, and I feel like I'm losing more muscle than I should. I've lost weight very well, just don't think I've maintained my muscle mass as well as I could have with full activity.

I hope it all works out well for you...we're going on a cruise in March and I'm actually looking forward to wearing a swimsuit :) Yay for WLS!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
