Nausea and vomiting after 1 month VSG post op

Recommended Posts

Hello Guys,

I have a question ? So I am exactly one month post op and lately everything I get and drink makes me nauseous and sometimes or most times causes some vomiting. I am on the mushy/purée stage right now and I'm ALWAYS hungry. I am eating anywhere between 3-4 ounces of food. I am satisfied for a little bit but then I get super hungry again. I am almost afraid to eat cause I'm scared to vomit or feel nauseous. My question is did anybody else experience this. If so how long does it last and how can I prevent it ? I don't have an appointment with my surgeon for another week so I'm desperate for some help ! Lol also I know this may be TMI but my vomit is like a clear salvia with little chunks/pieces of food .

Maybe an ulcer. I have one. I am 8 weeks out. Still nauseated nothing has taste and I can only eat a few bites at a time. Stomach pain to. Tell your surgical team.

Yes I had a horrible time with constant vomiting, they put a camera down last week and found that the stomach is still swollen hence me not able to keep anything down. Since they have increased my anti-acids and things are beginning to settle down, last evening I had a nice bowl of stew and all was good.

You need to talk with the doctor's who did your surgery, they need to rule out many things first, also dehydration is dangerous so please call them. Best of luck.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
