Sleeve and Hip Surgery

Recommended Posts

I got my sleeve 12/17 I have been having really bad hip problems My Ortho surgeon said I needed to lose weight and that may prevent the hip surgery. the first 2 days after surgery my hip was fine. Now the pain is back I have lost a total of 30 pounds since this journey. Starting to feel depressed which leads to eating. The Holidays were crazy for me all I saw was food and alcohol I tasted some mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes chewing 30 times of course, But wonder if I have messed up anything. anyone know if the hip pain will get better by losing more weight and if the eating has messed anything up.

Thanks

I doubt you messed anything up. You would have to overeat A LOT in order to do anything. Just keep doing what your surgeon told you to do, and try to distance yourself from junk food. The more weight you lose, the better your hip will feel. After I lost 20 pounds, my sciatic nerve still hurt. Now that I'm down 61 pounds down, my sciatic nerve no longer hurts anymore.

Thanks that is encouraging news!

You're very welcome! It seems hard because you expect to feel a little better after losing a certain amount. But the body doesn't always act the way we expect it to. ;) Also, have you ever wondered if maybe it's your mattress causing your hip to get out of a healthy adjustment? My hip hurt for a whole week because I was house-sitting for a friend, who has a horrible mattress.

So you are making your own shakes? No wonder. Those aren't very good, in my opinion. They're kinda chalky. Have you tried the ones you buy in a pack of 4? Like Premier Protein. Those are pretty good.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
