Weight loss stall

Recommended Posts

I had surgery exactly three weeks ago and lost 12kg up until last week. Since then I haven't lost a single kg and it's really stressing me out. I'm eating right and drinking plenty of Water but can't exercise yet. How long do these stall's usually last?

The stalls can last for awhile. I've read a lot of posts about stalls on here. One lady was stalled for a whole month.

My surgeon told me that your body has to adjust to the weight loss and stalls are completely normal and that they happen to everyone. It's nothing to get worried or upset about. You will eventually start losing again!

I did get a tip from my dietician last week that has helped me drop a few more pounds... I was stalled last week. I realized I was only getting in 475-550 calories a day and my carbs were really low. My dietician said at 6 weeks post op, my calories need to be up in the 600-800 range. Also, she said a boost in carbs to 50 grams a day would help me lose the weight as well. I made the appropriate changes and sure enough, the scale started moving a little again.

Every person is different. I'm about six months out and my longest stall to date was three weeks.

You can expect stalls throughout your entire journey. It's unfortunate but normal. I've read of stalls lasting a couple days or weeks. I personally had about a two week stall a couple weeks after surgery.

I had a stall between week 2 and 3.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
