nlmguerrero 50 Posted December 27, 2016 My cousin is a military wife. She was wondering what the prerequisites are for weight loss surgery with TriCare insurance. Thank you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Rosie212104 47 Posted December 27, 2016 You can obtain this information on the tricare website. I'm a military wife and had my surgery 8/17/2016. You must do the 6mo nutrition classes, at least grp class and have at least 1 comorbidity to accompany a high bmi. However, policy changes all the time. For instance when I started my journey they only covered bypass, right before my surgery I checked again and the covered the sleeve which is what I wanted in the first place. nlmguerrero 50 Posted December 28, 2016 Thank you! I've seen other posts where they did the surgery within three months. I wonder why the difference. I'll pass along the information. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
elisa5150 212 Posted December 28, 2016 Tricare is different based on standard or prime and different again by region. I was bmi 35 with two comorbidities. Insurance required psych eval, 6 months supervised weight loss program. Tricare Prime West. Approved within two weeks of completing surgeons requirements.
