Stupid question, but do they strip you nude in surgery?

Yeah...that "inny" navel/belly button. You'd be amazed at the flecks of crud we find deep in there. But to everyone, no need to feel embarrassed, for whatever you've got has already been seen in the OR: there's nothing new under the sun. [Though, one time, I had to remove a good size crystal ball from... a woman's 'secret garden'. Yes. That was a first!!]

RE: Shaving...mostly now, patients should not do their own shave, to decrease the risk of nicks and infection. Your doctor will advise; but usually, not recommended for the patient to do.

Catheters: Since most of the cases don't last that long, urinary catheters are not inserted if they have you urinate just before taking you to the OR. But again, surgeon preference, and what they feel is your specific need. If you might be a complicated case, and/or will take longer, then, yes.

I didn't get my catheter until the day after surgery. That's when they told me, "Oh yeah, the anesthesia does that sometimes, stops your bladder from working".

This was my biggest fear when I had my band surgery. I was scared I was going to be naked before they knocked me out. I am a very modest person and since I am fat have zero self esteem. Luckily they didn't take off my gown prior to anesthetizing me. I just had to pull my gown out from under me so they could take it off easier. I think if they had taken it off prior I would've had a panic attack. Lol

I would expect they just don't whip it off while everyone stands and takes notes though

You will be covered and stuff.

After I was in recovery and awake enough, I wanted my CLOTHES (sports bra, panties, yoga pants and T-shirt). I had my friend give me my bag and I was stripping off that gown and trying to druggedly put my clothes on, standing up and stuff. I am sure the the nurse and my friend where worried I'd fall. All kinds of naked! Ugh.

Not just nude, but for us hairier types, they come in and SHAVE your belly! Mrs. LittleBill teased me for weeks about looking like I was wearing a bra made of hair, since the rest of me was shorn clean. As far as I can tell, nobody messed with my manly parts, but since I was out cold, I could not say for sure. I do look closely at the various workers when I go to the doctor's office or the hospital though, to make sure no one is giggling at me.

Ok, so to add another layer to this topic, I have a question. I've had to walk into a surgery room a time or two, and was completely awake and in my right mind as they prepped my body for what's to come. Every single time I was completely terrified. Do they give you medicine in your iv beforehand to relax you before the grand entrance to thy sterile chambers?

Most cases also get a catheter to pee so they need access. It was that time of the month during my surgery so it made me feel extra uncomfortable but looking back it was the least of my problems

OMG, @@Finding_Stacy, I'm glad it's not just me! When I had surgery on my ankle a few years ago, they wheeled me into the OR, strapped me down to the table, connected me to all kinds of crap, and I was just laying there and stated to cry! I was terrified, and one of the nurses looked over at me and said, "oh honey, I'm sorry, we forgot to give you the good stuff!" I hope this surgery is different!!

They gave me some stuff to help me relax, but when they wheeled me into the OR I was fully aware of what they were doing. I wasn't scared per say, just nervous, because you know, this was the moment I've spent MONTHS waiting for and it was finally happening. So it was kinda surreal. It was also my first surgery too, so I was a little excited to try the anesthesia, I wanted to see if I could challenge it (I know I'm ridiculous, luckily for me the docs know what they're doing lol) I thought it was be like fading into sleep, but nope, just lights out and poof, in recovery. Literally as if someone turned off the lights for a second then turned them back on.

The first two surgeries I had, they gave me something first. I was drousy. For the Sleeve, they did not, although my IV was on and everything, I know I had anti-nausea meds.

I personally like seeing the operating room, I hate that they put me out cause there is so much activity! This time, they were waiting on the Dr. and a nurse started telling me about things in the room..I admit the robotics machine flipped me out a bit, it looked like a draped Transformer or something that Dr. Octopus would use. hehehe...

Look at it this way, they are getting the Before Picture of you. I'm still about 80-100 pounds from the After version of me, so I feel bad for the surgical team!!
