12 days post op and gaining?

Recommended Posts

The title says it all. At 9 days post op I was 293.6. Over the last few days a few quarter pounds have been sneaking on and as of this morning, 12 days post op I'm 295.4. Can someone please tell me what's going on as I'm not even on a normal diet yet and am only consuming between 600-800 in friggin Proteins shakes and farina

I had this happening to me too, my Dr said that my body is getting used to the lack of calories and sustaining itself on top of that so soon after the operation I can only assume you're not having regular bowel movements either this contributes too.

When you're cleared for exercise the weight will start dropping off because the small amount your consuming will also be burning off. I know it's hard but be patient when you're first out you'll drop weight but it will slow down and start up again. It's annoying but that's our bodies way of coping with such a drastic change.

Hang in there! :)

I'm just happy to hear I'm not the only one. I'm having fantasies of eating 500 calories a day and staying at almost 300 lbs for the rest of my life because "that's just the way my body works"

Any one else have this happen as well???

I'm probably echoing anything already said on here, but I think it's quite normal. It's so tempting to get on that scale almost everyday. I'm 13 days out.

Best advice anyone can give you is to stay off the scale for now. Follow your plan and the weight will come off. If you are having trouble with Constipation, call your doctor for advice.

Our weight fluctuates hour by hour, day by day and the scale can make you nuts. You may have a day where you gain and then a day or two later you might drop between 2 and 5lbs.

Your body will give up its fight as long as you stay the course. Dont let it get to you.

Best of luck and congratulations on your surgery!

Staying off the scale is probably a good idea. It's just really hard sometimes

Weigh yourself once a week.

Your only 12 days post surgury... your stomach is still healing.

I'm @ 24 days now... don't worry about it.

The lapband works.... can't wait forthe gym to open back up tomorrow....lol.

Treadmill time... love it!!!

Trust the program and don't weigh yourself for a bit. Your body is trying to adjust and it will comply if you do what your dr and nut advise.

You can get very frustrated at points, I sure did. It was hard to believe this surgery will work after years of frustration...just know it will be different this time if your behavior is compliant.keep going and reevaluate in a few months. I think and hope you will be happy!

Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
