Does anyone else have pain in their chest when they burp and stabbing stomach pain when they swallow liquids?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeve 12/20 That happened to me. I realized that my sips were too big and fast. Also I feel that when I drink from the bottle I had this pain. I tried smaller sips and I only drink from a cup. The pain went away.

I'm 6 days out and I am still having this problem. 2 days ago I made the mistake of using almond milk (allowed on my plan) instead of Water for my shakes, just to get a variety. What a mistake! Gave me the worst diarreah!! Back to Water but now I'm just bored with it. I go for my first post-op on Thursday, still a little diarreaH but mainly bored with the liquids!

OH I'm sipping faster now too. But I made the mistake of taking a sip that was too large and it gave me BAD gas pain!!! Won't. E doing that again lol

I was sleeved on 12/22 and was having same problem of pressure/pain after swallowing. My doctor suggested swallowing slower than I was doing. I was already swallowing slower but have slowed it even more & it has helped. Hot things seem to feel better for me as well.

Omg I'm so glad I'm not the only one, I was sleeved on the 26th and I was terrified this was what swallowing was going to be like forever. Glad to hear there is in end in sight.

Definitely try smaller sips. I used a medicine cup to measure out 15 ml (1/4 oz) in order to get the feel for what a sip is. Seems silly, but I've been gulping Water for 30 years. Just now learning how to sip...

I find that when I take too big of a swallow, I experience the exact pain as previously described ITT. Slowing down, at least 30 seconds between sip helps, too. It is tedious, definitely.

I am 3 1/2 weeks post op. I notice this problem more if I swallow too much at once. I have to be SUPER careful about the 30/30 rule and about a week ago started setting timers on my phone so I stop/start drinking at the appropriate times. Swallowing air is also a big culprit for me.

I have had a sharp pain in my stomach since last night after eating ground beef. I'm 3 1/2 weeks out and allowed my purée foods but maybe I didn't ground and chew the ground beef enough or is this something different? The pain hasn't gone away since I finished eating (super slowly) last night. Any suggestions appreciated!

Ok, so I think I have this same issue, 5 days out. Just a small amount of drink or yogurt and I can almost set a timer for when it hits the top of my stomach, resulting in a crampy feeling that's distressing as it is uncomfortable.

I've found that breathing deeply a few breathes after swallowing greatly relieved this condition. I hope this helps others.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
