Hi, I am 42, 4 days post op. SW 234. My incision (the big one) hurts sooo bad. I can't even walk without a burning sensation. It knocks me to my seat. The incision itself looks fine. Normal redness swelling. Clear glue still intact. Anyone have suggestions? Is this normal? Want to at least be able to walk a little. Grab my baby a toy or throw things away... at this point only sitting or lying on my back are tolerable.

Thank you for any advice!

I would say it is normal and the more you make yourself move and get up and walk the easier it gets. I am 12 days post op and my external incisions are almost healed and the pain is gone.

It gets better but also remember you had a major surgery even if the incisions are small. It is like being stabbed by a long knife at each incisions.

Good luck and hope you feel better.

If you have a fever and it is warm to yhe touch, go to the hospital. If not, take your pain meds.

Also try holding a pillow or something in front of you on your belly when you get up from a seated or laying down position to help "splint" the incisions. Some have good results with an abdominal binder for that. Helps with the tugging on the incision which can help with the sensation you're describing. Happy healing!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
