Dumping really sucks. Usually having it happen to you once is enough for most people to .never want it to happen again.

You need to remind yourself why you had major surgery. You've been through so much. Put that junk that you are stuffing in your face in the trash and to the curb. If it's not in the house you can't eat it. You've got to get yourself together and back on track. I highly recommend a therapist. Couldn't live without mine :) You can do this.

I suggest seeing a psychiatrist. I've seen many psychotherapists, some specializing in eating disorders and somehow we never narrowed my issues down to OCD. If you are a compulsive over-eater, I'm sure you are OCD in other ways as well, and not necessarily the stereotypical ways. It takes time to find the right dose/combination of medication. Personally, I had an aha moment when I was able to go to the candle section of a HomeGoods, pick up and smell just a few, put one in my cart and move one. When it hit me I started crying and laughing at myself. That scenario would have previously been very stressful for me. Seeing all the different options, shapes, colors, sizes, prices and scents. I had to examine each one and weight all the factors before I could decide, on a freaking candle. However, I have also found myself doing the same thing with food, more often in fact, because I have to eat everyday. food just simply should not produce all these feelings, anxieties, or uncertainties. I'm 5 days out and have had a few moments when I had overwhelming cravings for something I cannot eat and felt that same panicky anxiety start to rise up in my chest. While I'm on slow acting meds, I am also prescribed Valium to take just 5mg as needed. And man, do I wish I had this stuff when I quit smoking. For me, it just pulls the plug on the damn record player in my brain and it's such a relief. So, not to downplay seriousness of eating disorders, but compulsive eating may just be part of a bigger condition that needs treatment. Good luck ❤️

Wow I am shocked that anyone would try to eat things that we were told we should not eat again. Well maybe it was just me. I was told this sleeve surgery is a new lifestyle change and I would never and I repeat never be able to eat the following:

1. popcorn

2. oatmeal

3. Grits

4. Potatoe

5. Pasta

6. Rice

7. Cookies

8. chips

9. Sodas

10. Sweet Snacks.

Was I the only one told this? I am following the instructions to the letter because I hate discomfort and I am not interested in finding out what could happen if I went against Doctor's order.

Ha... Grits, oatmeal and (mashed) potatoes are actually the goods I'm ALLOWED to have during the post-op food plan.

My nutrition plan allows for steak cut oats in about 2 more weeks. Mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes are also allowed only during puréed stage and then they state only in moderation. popcorn completely natural with no butter is listed as a healthy grain snack for way later on. The rest are all no's on my list. So looks like every nutritionist is different.

Find a therapist before you seriously hurt yourself. A popcorn kernel lodged in you staple line could cause serious complications. You are too new to binge eat, especially foods like popcorn.

Sodas are even listed in my liquid diet phase post-op, provided they are caffeine free and flat, as in no carbonation. I had a discussion with my surgeon where I told him I was having a little bit of a hard time thinking of some of my favorite foods and that I would never be able to eat them again, and he told me I can eat anything I want in the future, just less of it. It's all about enjoying the things you like with moderation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
