Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

I'm freaking starving.

Recommended Posts

I'm about 2 weeks post opp and I'm literally ready to eat. Like I can't take it anymore. Has anyone tried mashed potatoes or very soft mac & cheese in their early stages of being sleeved? I'm about to ask my surgeon what I can eat. Even if it's hummus I'll be pleased. I know it's mind over matter but I'm sick of chicken noodle Soup and applesauce. How did you guys cope with the cravings?

Glad you are going to ask your surgeon if you can have certain pureed before you do it. The stomach is still healing and the majority of healing is during your first 21 days so it's important that you continue conversation with your surgeon in what he/she feels you should eat. I hated the liquid part of my diet (pre and post) so I feel you. It was the worst of the entire journey. Hang in there, keep drinking your Protein and maybe get some miso Soup if it's allowed on your plan. Don't forget to take your antacid twice daily to curb the acid mimicking hunger.

You've made it this far, you can do it. How many more days until you are allowed mushies? Have you tried egg drop or miso Soup for a change? How about strained bean soup?

As @@Sai said above, you are still healing. Your good health is worth much more than a few bites of ANYTHING before your body is ready.

Chew some gum, brush your teeth, rinse with Listerine (the nastiest liquid on earth), use those nasty Listerine strips -- nothing tastes good after that. Helped me make it through for sure...

There was a point early on where I felt ravenous, or throughout I did, but when I went to actually eat (or at that point drink) I found that I wasn't all that hungry. I still juggle with deciding if my body is hungry or is it just my mind. I find that waiting 15 mins and reassessing works for me.

Ask your surgeon if you can progress to puree, but I would avoid mash potatoes or mac and cheese, as a meal since they are too high in carbs.

I have Protein FIRST then carbs. Sometimes (not usually) those carbs are spoon or three of I crave.

Yes, avoid high carb foods as they won't satisfy you for very long before you will be hungry again. Explore The World According to Eggface. She has numerous recipes when the surgeon says you are ready.

It actually took me over a year to stop feeling "head hunger". Now I rarely feel that ravenous hunger as my mind has adjusted to the "new normal". I think the hard answer is that you are going to have to endure some discomfort to make it to your goal.

Tough it out! It ain't easy, but it will be worth it in the long run. If you are two weeks out, you should be close to pureed food anyway, but as you mention, check with your doc first. He will be the one slicing you back open if you screw something up.

I'm 10 days post opp and my surgeon and nut cleared me for one small can or pouch of tuna with fat free mayo and relish. It was amazing. I got tired of shakes and chicken noodle Soup too. I am also eating Dannon oikos triple zero Greek yogurt to get my daily Protein goal of 80g in. One serving of that have 15g Protein no fat or sugars. One serving of tuna have 22g with no fat and sugar. It's learning to know your limits all over again. I still lost 2 lbs overnight.

Uh... A few days out and you want to (even partially) load up on carbs? Stick with what you were told to do...and I'm sure it wasn't Mac and cheese and /or potatoes.

Okay... I'm moving on to another thread. Have fun.

Where did I EVER say I want to "load up" on carbs? You've had the sleeve done so you damn well know the most a person can eat 2 weeks post opp is a spoonful or two. No one wants to be on a liquid diet forever. Cut your bs trying to lowkey fat shame people when you should be giving helpful advice like you weren't big as a house at one point. Please.

Your nasty comment was not asked for and no one wants your negative comments on their threads like what's the point of you being on this app? I suggest you becareful with what you say to people online. Be very careful.

Let's see, a couple of bites fill you up but you only want to take couple of bites of potato or mac and cheese (both extremely WLS friendly foods, by the way). So really the poster you called out was correct. You want to load up on carb heavy food.

I would suggest you run any deviations in your food progression by your surgeon or his/her medical staff. I know less than 2 weeks post op those foods were NOT on my plan (hell, 2 years and 7 months post op, they're still not on my plan). At this point, your body needs Protein to heal. Where is the Protein in those foods? And trust me, they will fill you up and you won't get protein in, until you become ravenous again and the cycle starts over again.

That is just MY opinion. You are free to listen or ignore it. What you are not free to do is call me names or threaten my ass. Rather than threaten posters who refuse to validate your choices you should consider their advice like a rational person since everyone who offered an opinion is much farther out than you and amazingly successful. If you want validation and not advice why don't you save everyone the trouble and state that in the subject line. And, in the brilliant words of Lipstick Lady, feel free to block me if any part of this post sets you off. Good luck with your future endeavors.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
