My Doctor Let Me Down!

Recommended Posts

I Went For My Two Week Check-up Thinking I Would Get A Little Guidance On What To Eat,and How Much To Eat. We'll The Dr. Arrived Late And Had About 15 People To See. So, He Tells Me To Eat Any Soft food "protein First" And It Until I'm Full. Now, Let's Face It, If I Know When I Was Full I Wouldn't Need To Be Banded! I Just Told Him That I Had Already Started Gaining Weight Since My Surgery And Did Not Want To Gain It Back. He Said That's O. K. Not To Worry About Gaining The Weight Back. But I Have A Problem With That. But He's The Doctor , So I Guess He Know Whats Right. I Just Better Start Walking, Because If I Don't I'll Gain The Weight Back And Really Get Fusrated!! I Just Wish He Would Have Given Me A Menu Or Something!

I think at the early stage you're at, what's important is that you recognize the sensation of physical fullness... even if you do eat a little more... so that when you're on normal food and starting to get fills, you know what sensations you're supposed to be on the lookout for.

But I have no idea what he was thinking, that's just the way I see it!

It sounds like your Dr. was a bit busy to bother answering your questions...that really annoys me. Were you required to see a nutritionist? It was mandatory for me to see one before my surgery. My insurance didn't pay for it, but it was well worth the 120 dollars.

Just a thought...or I also reference the book " weight loss surgery for dummies" It has some eating menus that I have referenced many times.

Hang in there!

Hang in there. It is quite common to gain weight between fills. Keep going back for fills until you can no longer eat more than 1/4 cup of food. Its normal for you to eat 1 cup now. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
