Hi All!

Recommended Posts

Haven't been on in a while-- wanted to pop in and wish you all a Merry Christmas!

Typical Italian feast tonight- first, we will do the Seven Fishes, mussels, clams, calamari, white fish, lobster, ahi, shrimp each prepared as a separate dish. Bunch of small sides to go with, including a cheese and vegetable lasagna.

Then off to midnight Mass, and back to my house after for the meat dishes, antipasti, and more Desserts.

I made homemade limoncello about 6 weeks back, so that will be brought out after midnight, as well. People won't leave until 3 am lol.

And tomorrow, we do another whole meal, with roasts and the ravioli we made after thanksgiving that were flash frozen. Crazy times but in our family, that's Christmas.

Amazing how I still have no desire to indulge in things that are not bari- friendly. I'm so grateful for the gift the surgery became in my life. I'm weighing in at a whopping 137 today. The scale moves slooooooowly now, and bounces up and down but I'll take it.

So...to all of you who recognize Christmas, as we say in my family, Buon Natale, ora tutti mangiare, bere, e celebrare la stagione!!! È una bella giornata per accogliere Gesù!

Thank you for popping in is great!! Sharing your Family's Traditionally way of doing things is very interesting. We are choosing to skip Christmas dinner this year. We did have an awesome Thanksgiving but my hubby has finally got on the wagon to lose his weight!! Which is reason enough not to have dinner. You see it is very important that he loses his weight. He has Kidney Cancer and because of his weight they can't do anything for him. The very saddest thing was the VA didn't tell him it was Cancer for 3 years. His Specialist told him if he does nothing he will have 5 years with the last 2 being PURE HELL. So he did have a Sleeve done in June but he really wanted the RNY they couldn't do that surgery because of past scar tissue from past surgeries. I hate to be whining!! We all have our cross to bear don't we!! You have an AMAZING Holiday to you and yours!!! BTW I am so very happy with my WLS. food just doesn't hold the same appeal as before my surgery!! Again I'm sorry for bending your ears. LOL

Merry Christmas. You have had such a trial of a journey!

Will they be able to do kidney surgery? My moms significant other had cancer in his kidney some years ago, they removed that portion of it and he has been doing very well. His was very localized so no chemo needed... I hope your husband will be the same!!!!!????????????????????????

Good luck! I'll keep him in my prayers.

( and there is NO getting out of holidays here... the troops would rise up and anarchy would ensue! Lol)

So good to see you again @@LisaMergs! What a feast your family has, sounds amazing. Our tradition for Christmas eve is fondue using peanut oil..we foundue steak, breaded cauliflower, mushrooms and tempura shrimp. The evening started out with oyster stew. I ate a little of everything:-) Glad to see you healthy and happy

Thank you for your post and your welcoming words. Yes we hope they can do surgery but they kept talking about doing a biopsy or CRYOGENICS which just means freezing it. We both think that since they said he was 98% sure that it is Cancer we want them to just take it out!!! Why take chances Right. He is finally doing ok with his diet so we both are very encouraged in that area. Lisa thank you for understanding and having compassion for our dilemma. I hope you and yours had a fun loving Christmas. We are just relaxing at home. But tomorrow hubby is taking the grandchildren shopping with their $50.00 we gave them for Christmas. They love love getting real money. LOL I hope to see you post more often after the holidays. Take care

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
