sill21 69 Posted December 24, 2016 I'm one week post op and I cannot finish one Protein Shake. I try to do the 4 oz at a time and can't even really do that. Plus if I do that for one meal I want a different liquid for the next. I know I'm not getting my Protein goal in. How long does this last? Did anyone else experience this? I'm worried about my hair falling out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
scipiobabe 24 Posted December 24, 2016 Hey try to get what you can in with your Protein shakes my doctor wasn't too worried about that for the first week his main worry was hydration try to do at least 64 ounces which to me is impossible but one week in and still in the 40's and I get 40 grams of Protein now but not until about three days ago Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Who'sThere 331 Posted December 24, 2016 I had my RNY 12/15. No way am I meeting my Protein goals yet, but I'm ok with that. My surgeon's group stresses liquid then protein! Dehydration is not your friend, so they would rather you drink drink drink at first then work on meeting Protein goals. rbaertsch 34 Posted December 24, 2016 Mine says the same thing. Try sipping the Protein like you do Water. I even have to take a break and go back to Water, then resume the shake. It's ok if it takes you an hour or more to get it down. Go slow. Also, you may not be able to tolerate making it with milk if you are used to it that way. Try making the shake with just water. Good luck! Sent from my LG-H810 using the BariatricPal App
Andell 53 Posted December 24, 2016 Try one ounce at a time. Sipped over 10 mins. This is how I'm to take all liquids during my liquid diet Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

TheCurvyJones 721 Posted December 25, 2016 The Protein goal is something to work up to. Don't fret if you're not hitting it right out of the gate.. just keep pushing Protein as best you can. As you heal and as time goes on, your capacity will increase (don't let this freak you out, it's normal!). You'll be hitting that protein number in no time! I actually never finish a Protein shake. I just cannot suck the stuff down after awhile.
TheCurvyJones 721 Posted December 25, 2016 Another idea... you might try cutting it with some almond milk or skim milk... make it not so thick and dense. Not half and half but maybe 1/4th to 3/4th. Some people down the shakes with no problem but most of us have to do some experimenting and research and trying and testing to find something that works. Bama2012 76 Posted December 25, 2016 I had surgery on 6/8/16 up until recently I had trouble getting Protein and Water in like everyone else. I do much better now the only thing I did notice is that I have lost a lot of muscle mass. I think no matter what I would of lost it anyway because of rapid weight loss. My hair has stopped growing much now and is thinning. I am hoping it will grow again soon. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
