I have my VSG booked for next month; from the general research I've done and from what my surgeon says, WLS is a good solution for the uncontrolled weight gain, even though it's hormonal. I know everyone's journey is different, but are there any women with PCOS who have WLS success stories you'd be willing to share? I'm very nervous that I will do this serious surgery and it won't work, even if I do everything right. I'm so tired of gaining weight, though, and I need to get ahead of it before it gets totally out of control.

Thanks in advance for sharing your stories with me!

I've been so worried about the correction of androgens in my system post op. My VSG is scheduled for February. PCOS is one of my biggest motivations for having the surgery.

I too have been told I have PCOS. I've never had a regular menstrual period. As a teenager, I can remember different hormonal problems. The nurse explained to me that after my surgery, I should be careful that there is a chance I could get pregnant. It is supposedly a danger to have a baby soon after your surgery. My friend's cousin had gotten pregnant a few months after her surgery and after the baby was born. She complained of severe stomach pain months after the baby was born. She went to the ER and died shortly after arriving. The doctor explained to the mother that she died of complications of the bariatric surgery due to her pregnancy. So sad, she left behind 4 children that the grandmother is raising now.

However, even in this forum I have read a women 4 month post op and she is pregnant. I hope everything turns out ok for her. No story is the same and she may be perfectly fine.

I've only lost 10 surgery but 37 since I started this journey in June. I think I am losing inches qiicker than lbs. Sometimes I can see a difference and sometimes not. My husband sees it.more than I do.

@spowell@chabronda

Those sound like pretty great results so far! Thanks for sharing, and I would love to hear how things continue to go for both of you.

@DaniVSG- I have a number of things that make me a bit nervous too. My surgery is at the end of January, we can go through it together!

Yes we can! I'm prepared to lose slower but I just need the tool to lose altogether!

I've got PCOS too and am scheduled for Monday 12/26 for a VSG with duodenal switch!

I was told the DS would be better for me because of how the PCOS affects my metabolism.

I'll keep y'all updated!

DS scheduled for 12/26

I had surgery on 10/28 and have lost about 30 lbs since the surgery. I feel like I am losing slower than others due to my PCOS and my doctor said it can cause slower results. However I would have never been able to lose 30 lbs in the past let along in two months. I am thankful to be feeling better and getting healthier even if it's at a slower rate. Good luck to you!

I have PCOS also- I had the sleeve on 11/7. I've lost about 45lbs since I started on the preop diet. I often forget to take my metformin bc my eating is a bit irregular. My surgeon is happy with my results and so am I. This is the most weight I have ever been able to lose and it makes me feel better all around. I don't remember having jeans that were too big in years. It's been a great decision for me. Good luck on your journey. This site has been great support. I like reading everyone's posts and knowing I'm not facing some of these struggles alone. Happy Holidays and congrats on your decision!!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
