ohhthisjourney 8 Posted December 24, 2016 Yes I had shortness of breath, use your spirometer. When I first went to the gym I thought I would die. Take deep breaths get those lungs opened up Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
addibrk2 4 Posted December 24, 2016 I am 10 days post op and I was the same. It's getting better though. Make sure you're getting your fluids and Protein. I felt like that helped me. I still get super tired after going to the store or something like that. But last week I was weak and couldn't hardly take a shower without having to rest! Koala427 3 Posted December 24, 2016 Shortness of breath can be a sign of a pulmonary emboli. I would call your surgeon. Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App
goldenbarbie 329 Posted December 24, 2016 Make sure you are hydrated. I had the same problem up to 2 days ago. I met with my surgeon for my follow up appointment and he sent me to the ER once he realized why I felt that way. He said typically I would feel tired my first week but lack of fluids will heavily cause the shortness of breath, weak feeling, etc. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
DillThePill 18 Posted December 24, 2016 I don't want to be an alarmist but you should take this seriously. I had a pulmonary embolism (not related to this surgery). I could have died. The leading cause of death from bariatric surgery is due to blood clots, which cause embolism, among other things. Are you on blood thinners? My surgeon puts all of his patients on blood thinners for two weeks. I don't know if that is typical. (I'm on them for longer because of my history.)
