Weight loss supplements pre-opt

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I'm projected to get sleeved in the Spring. I'm really excited about that. Although I will inquire with my physician, I thought I'd ask...can you take weight loss supplements prior to operation? I was thinking about getting on Phentermine to help with some some weight loss until surgery. If anyone have any insight on this please share.

Phentermine is an appetite suppressant. I think of "supplements" as those cockamamie, scary, middle-of-the-night TV commercial products of dubious ingredients and no standards for having make it to market.

Phentermine is intended to be used only for a few weeks rather than long term. It will interfere with a night's sleep if taken, oh, say after 2 p.m. Most of us have the eating demons visit at night and, by then, the drug's effect may have worn.

Why not give it a go under your own steam before getting any prescriptions? Your upcoming surgery may be a surprisingly good motivator for now. This is also a good time to start planning meals and grocery lists so that it's second nature after surgery. Begin using one of the food/nutrition trackers. Plan menus a few days in advance, knowing that you can always amend them if you wish. While you're at it, vow to include in the tracker the "bad" things that may sneak in behind your back (yeah, sure, right) that you are fully familiar with your patterns. It's useful info.

Sounds reasonable?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
