kaypitre5 28 Posted December 23, 2016 (edited) I asked my insurance plan to send me the details on the requirements for bariatric services because over the phone, all they told me was that I needed to be enrolled in a 3 month weight loss program but the details said more then that. I have 12 things to check off on. Can I start going to some of these other doctors to get clearance before my consultation with the surgeon? kell911 62 Posted December 23, 2016 I also got all the info possible from my insurance. I started mine early as well. Then called the surgeon that. They will help you get it all done. I also have to have the procedure in a specific hospital Blue distinction center of Excellence. It has been easier since I spoke to the surgeons office and they gave a me a pt advocate. kell911 62 Posted December 23, 2016 Also, I have completed 1.5 months of 3 months of diet supervised by my primary with weigh ins. I did my psych eval this past week and I have my last 2 weigh ins scheduled with blood work and EKG. My last weigh in is 2/2/17. Then they send all my notes to the surgeon and then they will send it to insurance for approval..
kaypitre5 28 Posted December 23, 2016 @@kell911 so I cant start to get these things done before I see my surgeon for the first time? also I read that I have to get a clearance from a PCP, Cardiologist, Pulmonologist. Do I really have to see all of those doctors?? & do you know if its best to see your PCP or Weight Watchers for the supervised weight loss program? kell911 62 Posted December 23, 2016 I have not seen my surgeon yet, only have gotten the official things to do from them. You should be able to start. And yes if your insurance states it then you have to do it. @@kell911 so I cant start to get these things done before I see my surgeon for the first time? also I read that I have to get a clearance from a PCP, Cardiologist, Pulmonologist. kell911 62 Posted December 23, 2016 Since I had to do weigh in's with my doctor I just did the supervised diet with her. It really has been easy..My Dr. is the one who is helping me with all of it, I was stressing at first but once I started it all with my DR., has been easier than I thought it would be. I also had to go to a seminar before starting all of it. If you do the WW it will be more money out of your pocket in my opinion plus your co pays for your Dr visits. There are thousands of people on here that have done this that have a lot of good information.
