Successful surgery

Recommended Posts

So my surgery was 12/21/16 I honestly did not know how or what feel. When I got the operating room I was told that they were going to administer the anesthesia through my I've. The lady asked me to stretch my arm. As soon as I stretched it I was out. When I woke up the nurse was telling me that it was time to walk. I told her I didn't have the surgery yet she said oh yes the surgery is complete. I didn't have no pain at all. So looked down my gown and saw the white bandages. So o got up and to the bathroom. I was later discharged.

The ride home was okay. I wasn't uncomfortable at all it felt like a normal car ride. My husband helped me inside and up the stairs. I have been getting up every hour as instructed and walking for 10 minutes. No pain just the feeling of gas: sir trapped in my back. I can't seem to get rid of it. I am also wearing my cpap mask.

The only discomfort I'm having is my throatI am having trouble with my fluids. I am trying to avoid throwing up gotta go. Time for my walk. .

Glad to hear you're doing well! Similar experience for me today except they are keeping me overnight because of sleep apnea. They are monitoring my oxygen levels closely. The only pain I have is has pain so I'm walking a lot and using GasX strips. I am having no nausea nor trouble with liquids - I've had four bottles of Water (small) and two cups of chicken broth so far. It's surprising to me that I feel hunger. I thought I'd have zero appetite but I hadn't eaten anything in over 24 hours so maybe my body was telling me EAT! I just hope the hunger feelings are temporary. Looking forward to going home in the am.

Good to hear you are doing well, I was told to bring my machine and I would wear after I recover them when I get home. As far as liquid in take. I have a 8 ounce sipping cup I started with ice chips on the ride home. Then I had a freeze pop and 4 ounces of Isopure. Now I'm sipping on Water. I am afraid of vomiting so I am taking in my fluids very slow.

I'm so far having no issues on Day 2 and feel pretty good; very little pain at the incision sites. Still struggling to get all the gas bubbles out of my chest though. I'm walking a lot, sipping Water and took my Prilosec this am with some Jello. Hope you are also feeling better today?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
