Gall bladder issues?

Recommended Posts

I've just been approved for my VSG (yay!) and my research showed that many folks have had gall bladder issues after surgery. How many of you developed these issues (if you'd never had them before, that is)? If you did, did you have to have your gall bladder removed?

Thanks!

I had my gallbladder removed before my surgery. My gallbladder was only working at 12% (any dysfunction under 35% is abnormal). The gallbladder can fail from rapid weight gain and rapid weight loss. Rapid weight loss may cause an imbalance of bile and cholesterol in the body, as well, which can lead to the formation of gallstones.

I had a feeling my gallbladder wasn't functioning correctly. The main indicators were, a Charlie Horse feeling in my sides and major indigestion.

I was banded in 2012 and almost immediately back on solids developed gallbladder problems. Unfortunately for me they went undiagnosed for just shy of a year. I was having weekly attacks, sometimes the 2 or 3 times a week. In the end I had it removed and it was the best thing for me. Sadly, my band needed unfilling for the surgery and has never quite been the same since. I'm being revised to a sleeve in a few weeks time!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
