julie74601 27 Posted December 21, 2016 I was told after my surgery I could resume my medication I took before hand. But I'm scared about taking a couple of them. I am supposed to take these Omega 3 Ester capsules (softgels) and literally they look like horse pills. I'm scared to take them. The rest of the medicines are fairly small. I don't think I would be able to poke a hole in it. I doubt I would be able to gag it down. Any thoughts? theantichick 2,204 Posted December 21, 2016 I was told anything M&M size or smaller was fine (and I assumed she meant the non-peanut kind). I take an Omega that is a huge capsule, and I didn't take it for a couple of weeks until I was on purees. My doc and I went through my meds and agreed that all of my prescribed meds were an appropriate size and were needed, and that the ones that were a size problem were supplements that would be OK if I missed for a few weeks. I don't know if you're taking the Omega 3 as a prescribed medicine for a condition or as a supplement, so I can't advise you whether or not to take it, so if in doubt call your team and check. But generally it's OK to skip supplements for a while unless they're essential to treat a specific medical condition.
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted December 21, 2016 I was allowed to swallow all pills... including my "horse pill" sized Calcium and Omega 3 at 7 days post op. Try spacing large pills out throughout the day so you aren't taking them all at once and also try having a few sips of Protein Shake or other full liquid.< /p>
