Ozzy&OdiesMommy 0 Posted September 17, 2007 I finally made up my mind to explore the lap band proceedure. I have an appt with my GP next week to discuss how to proceed and who he recommends as a surgeon. In doing some leg work for this I called my insurance company (Anthem). They said that NO bariatric surgery, regardless of the reason is covered. I am absolutly devistated. I can't afford this without help from my insurance company. Even with the maximum flexible spending allowance next year. I have a friend who had this done and she has been a wonderful resource, but she paid out of pocket for her surgery. So she isn't able to help me very much with insurance. I just need help trying to figure out what to do next. I have been looking around these boards and see things about first denial and legal rights. I'm just not sure how and if any of it applies to my situation. Any advice is SO appreciated. :think Ryan
Candle 11 Posted September 19, 2007 I had an exclusion with my Anthem policy as well. I'm sorry to tell you, I was informed by an attorney that I had little to no chance trying to appeal a denial. He advised me not to even spend the money on all the pre-op tests and legal fees. I found a self pay insurance plan that ended up covering the band for me. (if you are in NY I might be able to help you) You could also explore going to Mexico for about $7,000-$10,000 or there's a doctor in CO that does it for about $10,000 Good luck
